HAT Kobe is the new city center established in the eastern waterfront area of Kobe City as a symbolic project of the reconstruction after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. The nickname “HAT” is an acronym for “Happy Active Town,” and was chosen from many public entries. This area, full of water and greenery, was developed based on the lessons learned from the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, with various facilities which allow people to live and work in comfort, relax and have fun in a safe and secure environment. In addition to being a residential area, HAT Kobe is home to many agencies engaged in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian aid, international exchange and international cooperation. They collaborate with each other to convey know-how of disaster risk reduction widely to the world. |
